Hardacre Kindness Project Encourages Community Involvement

Main Street Marshfield Hopes to Spread Kindness

This summer, Main Street Marshfield is helping spread kindness, thanks to a new endeavor called the Hardacre Kindness Project. To participate, people can visit one of five local businesses (listed below), choose a ribbon from the Kindness Bucket, and then perform that act of kindness.

After completing the act, participants are invited to “dare” their recipient to do the kindness project. From there, they take their ribbon and tie it to the top of the fence at Hardacre Park. They can also choose to share their experiences on social media, using the hashtag #Hardacrekindnessproject.

“I always thought a Pay it Forward project would be really cool,” said Sierra Jones, Main Street Marshfield volunteer and project organizer. “I have watched many videos on different groups trying to start one up and the results were amazing. We actually studied it in Economics and it proved that it even helped the economy as a whole, because people take part in their communities and become more engaged.”

Tasks are simple, involving acts like “hold the door open for someone,” “mow a neighbor’s lawn,” or “leave a nice letter in a library book.” If someone gets a ribbon with a task that they don’t want to or can’t complete, they are encouraged to come up with another one of their own to try.

“The ‘dares’ are not meant to be huge, difficult tasks. Just some small things that can create a big impact,” said Jones. “It is for a whole community. A lot of these projects that I’ve seen are used in schools or specific businesses. We are opening this up to everyone so there can be a bigger effect.”

Jones is excited to see the impact of the project here in Marshfield, and she invites everyone to participate.

“It is beneficial because it makes people more engaged and aware of their surroundings,” said Jones. “These kindness projects seem to have a multiplier effect to them, as well. Once one person does it for someone, that recipient is more likely to do it for someone else. It just needs a start. That is what the ribbon is for.”

The locations where the ribbons will be available are as follows:
1. High Street Salon
2. Hub City Times
3. Book World
4. The Daily Grind
5. Marshfield Family Restaurant
