Ground Up Coffee Shop in Stratford, which opened in August, has a passion for keeping things local.
Kim Mueller co-owns the new business with her daughter, Sierra Custer. Together, they serve carefully crafted drinks made with artisan coffee roasted in small batches from Wausau company, Condor, Sweet Retreat Bakery items from Loyal, One Love Bread from Withee, and Scheiderer Farm Eggs from Edgar, plus more.
“We wanted to stay local, and do as many local vendors as we can,” said Kim.
Though Ground Up Coffee Shop offers ready-to-go sandwiches and warming soups, the mother-daughter duo’s first love is coffee. Kim even used to work with her daughter while managing Cattails Coffee.
“We both know it’s a pretty fun environment,” noted Kim.
They noticed that Stratford had a need for a business like Ground Up, which offers a place to meet, grab a quick lunch, and linger over a favorite brew. The community can also take advantage of the newly-available drive-through. Groups of 6-8 are able to reserve the Farmhouse Room for special or casual gatherings.
“I think it’s exceeded our expectation,” said Kim. “The community seems excited to have us here.”
Besides light, medium, and dark roast coffee, customers can order smoothies, blended drinks, hot chocolate, and soft drinks. As a health coach, Kim made sure to include health-conscious, low-carb items on the menu.
