Annual Vita Bella Gala Benefits American Cancer Society Hope Lodge
It will be a Great Gatsby “Roaring ‘20s-Jazz Age” celebration in May for the eighth annual Vita Bella Gala benefitting the American Cancer Society (ASC) Hope Lodge in Marshfield.
The event will be Friday, May 12, at RiverEdge Golf Course, Marshfield. The Gala begins with a reception and silent auction at 5:30 p.m.; dinner at 7 p.m. followed by a program, live auction and music from Hub City Jazz. Chairing this year’s event are Lori and Jake Gropp of Marshfield.
Presenting sponsors for the Gala are Marshfield Clinic Health System and Security Health Plan of Wisconsin, Inc.
Hope Lodge, located at 611 W. Doege St., serves as a home away from home, free of charge, for adult cancer patients and their caregivers. Hope Lodge is a non-medical facility, offering a sense of community and comfort to cancer patients who must travel to Marshfield to receive lifesaving cancer treatment typically not available in their home communities.
That evening, Dr. William and Karen Hocking of Marshfield will be honored as the eighth recipients of the American Cancer Society Spirit of Hope award.
Recipients of this annual award epitomize community service through their work with Hope Lodge, recognizing them for their dedication to people diagnosed with cancer and their families. Their support and leadership has been transformative and they have unified others to improve people’s lives. Award recipients are builders – people who, quite apart from personal achievements, have raised the capacity of others to advance the common good.
Past Spirit of Hope honorees are Fritz Wenzel, Margaret Peterson, Dr. Douglas Reding, Marilyn Hardacre, the late Dick Hofmeister, Larry Shortess and Mike Schmidt.
