Children’s Camp at Chestnut Center Features Fun, Art, and Learning
For the 4th year in a row, the Chestnut Center for the Arts is hosting Going Nutz for the Arts, a summer camp for kids ages 5 – 11.
From 2D drawing and painting and 3D clay and sculpture to music and rhythm such as singing, dancing and drumming, a variety of the arts can be enjoyed. The camp is available for all skill levels and daily rotation of classes keeps energy and excitement high.
Executive Director of the Chestnut Center, Adam Smrcka, said this is a class where kids can have fun while learning.
“Kids are able to express themselves through their imaginations and creativity,” he said. “We truly see the importance of strong, happy and healthy families and by the end of each week, we expand our creative CCA family. We take the opportunity to tell a story through the arts. Yes, it is about having fun and being creative; but the camp is about so much more! Healthy expressions of emotions and feelings, collaboration and teamwork, history and the importance of acceptance and joy of our diversity.”
Each year a theme is chosen in which creative works are explored. Past themes include Africa, Native America, and Asia. The focus this year will be on Latin American culture.
“The kids love learning and exploring their creativity and simultaneously learning about different and fascinating cultures,” said Smrcka.
On Friday of each session, parents and family are invited to a demonstration of what the kids have learned that week.
Smrcka added that the group also goes off site, to visit members of the community.
“We have always loved visiting the Aster Retirement Community to brighten up the day of their residents,” he said.
Cost is $160 per child or $135 for 2 or more family members. Each student will receive a summer camp t-shirt. Sessions are the week of July 10-14 and July 24-28 from 1 – 4:30 each day and limited to 50 campers.
Smrcka said that class couldn’t be offered without the support of corporate sponsors such as Forward Financial Bank as well as Family Sponsors: Polga Family, McCauley Family, Trudeau Family, Vidaillet Family, and Dara Luangprasuet.
