For over 20 years the Friends of the Marshfield Public Library (FOMPL) has given thousands of books to children in our community through their annual Give a Kid a Book campaign. Give a Kid a Book has grown impressively every year since its inception.
In 2018, over 1600 books were delivered to ten Marshfield service organizations to distribute to the children and families they serve.
Through the end of December, Friends of the Marshfield Public Library will be collecting new or gently used children’s books. Every book donated to Give a Kid a Book gives children in our community the opportunity to experience the fun, excitement, adventure, and learning that reading brings.
Keep Give a Kid a Book in mind as you shop, browse your favorite bookstore or look through your personal library. Board and baby books, picture books, easy readers, and books for elementary, middle school and high school students are all accepted. This year new or used picture books are especially needed.
Donations may be brought to the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library until the end of December. Drop them off at the special Give a Kid a Book display or at the Circulation Desk and indicate that they are for the Give Kid a Book. If you prefer, you may leave a monetary donation at the Circulation Desk and FOMPL will shop for you.
For more information about the program, contact the Children’s Department at the library.
Last year’s recipients included Child Care Centers of Marshfield Medical Center; Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin; Hannah Center; Marshfield Clinic Pediatrics; Child Life at Marshfield Medical Center; Shirley’s House of Hope; Soup or Socks; Tiny Tigers and Affiliates; Wood County Head Start; YMCA Day Care and After School Services.
