Experience the culture of India at the Mother Teresa India Festival starting 3 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 at the Junior Fair Building in the Marshfield Fairgrounds. Highlights of the event include an India buffet, dance performance, and colorfest walk in the spirit of India’s Holi Festival.
Proceeds raise funds for India Mission Joy, a charitable foundation dedicated to provide services for communities in poverty. Funds raised at the festival will go toward Mother Teresa Orphanage and another in the village of Kokkudi. Previously, restrooms were installed at the Kokkudi high school and other funds were recently sent to provide a well to the community.
The buffet from 4:20-6 p.m. includes vegetable briyani, mixed vegetable masala, cauliflower fried, potato cutlet, palak panner with spinach, chicken curry, white rice, wheat bread-naan, dessert (gulab jam). Advance tickets are sold at Hiller’s True Value or on the day of the event. Adult tickets are $10 and children under 10 are $5.
From 3-7 p.m., purchase India clothing and food and try Henna painting. Learn more about India Mission Joy and a January pilgrimage to visit Mother Teresa’s tomb, see the Taj Mahal and where St. Thomas the apostle was martyred, and many other sites in India. Children will enjoy the sand art area.
Workshops include an India Cooking class at 3 p.m., Bollywood dance instruction from 3:30 to 4:15, an India sand art demonstration at 4:15, and a 5:30 presentation on India Mission Joy. A dance program will follow at 6 p.m.
The colorwalk will begin at 7 p.m. Bring a white t-shirt and get doused with color through the color zones. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children.
