Event Open to Everyone

Prepare to get colorful at the Grant Elementary PTO Color Run taking place Saturday, Sept. 21 at Frey Field in Spencer.

Everyone can participate in either the 5k or 1 mile fun run/walks, or just the “color parties.” Proceeds from the event will be used toward updating the school’s playground with four new basketball hoops and two gaga pits, which will altogether cost over $15,000.

“We try to raise our funds mainly through fun events, and this one is going to be a blast,” said Kristin Cutlan, Grant PTO president. “This is our first fundraising run and hopefully will become an annual event if people enjoy it.”

During the race, volunteers at four color stations will throw nontoxic colored cornstarch at the runners. Participants can purchase white t-shirts at the event to see the full effect of the powder on themselves, or wear clothes which they don’t mind getting the rainbow treatment. Businesses are welcome to sponsor a color station.

After the race, a color party will be held at noon and at 1:15 p.m. Participants will gather and throw a packet of color in the air at the same time to create a cloud. Additional color packets are available for purchase.

Registration can be completed at Active.com (click here for link).

A t-shirt, race bib, and a bag of color are included in registration. Kids 3 and under will have a special area to themselves to run for free. Registration and packet pickup will be from 9-11 on the day of the race, which begins at 11 a.m. A DJ will keep the atmosphere fun, so runners and walkers are encouraged to arrive early.
