Job Options Are Available as Young as 14
Though most are 16 when they enter the workforce, the industrious teen can get an early start on their first job once they turn 14.
Festival Foods is a local employer with flexible job options for young workers with bagger and cart runner positions.
“We really feel it’s a true benefit for them, especially within our younger groups. We’re teaching them social skills and the responsibility of having a schedule, having assigned tasks,” said Nic Lotzer, HR Manager/Market Lead. “Nothing is too hard to learn. We have a really good training program for all the positions we have here.”
Due to the large department size on the front end, Festival Foods is able to easily work around job labor requirements and student’s busy schedules.
“I think what we hear the most from the parents is we offer really good flexibility,” said Lotzer. “We know how hectic life can be with balancing school and extracurricular activities. The flexibility we offer is a true benefit. All we ask is they’re upfront and honest about what their scheduling needs are.”
Workers can become cashiers potentially at age 15 with opportunities for advancement further down the line to customer service and management positions. They can also transfer to other departments, like produce, or stock shelves.
Additional benefits for workers include a 5% discount 90 days after hire for immediate family members and a Dollars for Scholars matching program, which deducts a portion of each paycheck for college expenses.
