Spoken History: Finding Records for Your Family Research

Curious about your family history, but don’t know where to begin?

In recognition of Family History Month, the Marshfield Area Genealogy Group will present the next lecture in the Spoken History series at the library on Monday, October 1 at 7 p.m: “Wisconsin Resources: Finding Records for your Family Research.” Presenter Donald Schnitzler will go over Wisconsin resources that are easily accessible to the family history researcher.

“The information will provide an overview of those must check records for creating a family tree with a sound foundation,” he said. “It will also introduce available resources that may add to the family’s story beyond just names, dates and places.”

Himself a family researcher since the 1970s, Schnitzler will share examples of records for people from Marshfield’s early history. The event is free and open the public.

By the program’s end, those who attend will know how to locate and sift through Wisconsin Territorial Papers, search the pre-1907 vital event index, prepare to research vital event records at a county courthouse, locate land records, access records held by the Wisconsin Historical Society and the Wisconsin Area Research Centers.

Formed in 1984, the Marshfield Area Genealogy Group can be a valuable resource for family history researchers. The Group provides programs related to genealogy and provides helpful instruction on how to collect and preserve genealogical information found in Marshfield or in relation to its people. It works closely with the Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library.
