Midsummer is the best time to snack on some delicious, in-season melons.
Festival Foods Melon Fest will provide a wide variety of melons starting Wednesday, July 17 through Tuesday, July 23.
“Melon Fest is a week during what is usually peak season for US melons. Festival brings in many varieties of melon that we don’t normally offer or have access to,” said Clay Carter, Produce Manager. “This is the time of year when the melon harvest moves north from Mexico and into Arizona and California, which is typically when we see the most consistent quality and run the best ads.”
The bestseller Santa Claus will be offered along with the following, pending availability: Galia, Casaba, Orange Flesh Honeydew, Crenshaw, Juan Canary, Hami, Golden Dew, Kiss Melons, and a new variety called Orange Rush.
“In addition to a great coupon price on cantaloupe, we will also be offering standards like Honeydew and Watermelon at a sale price, along with a good variety of lesser known melons,” said Carter.
The Fresh Cut department will have cups available for most of the melon varieties, including fresh cut watermelon halves and the popular, easy-to-eat watermelon shingles.
Test new varieties during sampling times from 11-6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Festival Foods is open 24/7.
