Giving back to a specific cause or local charity that you’re passionate about is a rewarding experience. If you have the means, a monetary donation to an organization of your choice is always an excellent way to give, but if you’re looking for something more hands-on approach there are many ways to help.
Listed below are several local organizations in and around Marshfield, that are asking for volunteers and/or donations this holiday season and beyond. Click on the links to learn more. There is truly something for anyone who is willing to help.
American Red Cross – Donate Blood
Every day, blood donors help patients of all ages: accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those battling cancer. In fact, every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood.
Big Brothers Big Sisters – Central Wisconsin
For 1-2 hours a week, you could impact the life of a child forever! We are currently looking for volunteer mentors for children ages 5-18. Mentors would meet with their little ones weekly for 1-2 hours and plan activities together. Many matches go out for ice cream, go to the park, or just talk about their day. The possibilities are endless! The role of a Big Brother or Big Sister is to be a positive, supportive friend to a child.
Chestnut Center for the Arts
Chestnut Center for the Arts is always looking for adults and high school-aged kids who are willing to donate their time to a variety of tasks. Opportunities and times are flexible. They need teachers, one-time volunteers, and volunteers who can help on a regular ongoing basis.
Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin
Volunteer at Children’s Wisconsin and join a team committed to making Wisconsin’s kids, and all of the kids we serve, the healthiest in the nation. They offer a wide variety of volunteer opportunities in their hospitals and around Marshfield.
Discovery Education Station
Discovery Education is in need of volunteers to fill a variety of positions like chaperones, outreach, handymen/women, educators, docents, cashiers, event assistants, and more. Any number of hours/days you can give is greatly appreciated!
Family Center
The Family Center offers shelter and support services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. They need volunteers to help with day-to-day operations with the food pantry, reception, cleaning, special events, and more.
Festival Foods – Turkey Trot
Festival is looking for volunteers for all areas for their Turkey Trot event on November 23rd-24th. Water station, food/beverage table, course monitors, registration, shirt distribution, and more.
Friends of Marshfield Public Library
Friends of Marshfield Public Library (FOMPL) are seeking new members! This is a great opportunity to engage with the local community and participate in programs that make a difference for your friends and neighbors. FOMPL is a non-profit organization supporting and enlarging the scope of library services through volunteer, advocacy, and fund-raising activities.
Friends of the Mead/McMillan Wildlife Areas
They are looking for event assistance, educators, maintenance, wildlife area assistance, and more. If you have other interests, ideas, or special skills that you would like to share they are willing to work together to develop a project that is meaningful and mutually beneficial.
Hannah Center
Provides options for women who can no longer remain in their home environment. They are seeking volunteers to help with mentoring, life skill education, organizing and distributing donations, gardening, cleaning, and more.
HART Equine Therapy Center
HART Equine Therapy Center has opportunities for anyone who enjoys animals, and people and wants to help others. Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks from stable duties to horse handling. These duties can include sidewalking, horse leading, grooming and tacking, and/or assisting students during Horses and Hands classes.
Healthy Lifestyles-Marshfield Area Coalition
If you’re looking for an opportunity to improve the quality of life and reduce the incidence of lifestyle disease by promoting healthy eating and active living we’ve got volunteer positions available for you! Volunteers can work with businesses, schools, and the community to promote healthy eating and active living as a part of a healthy lifestyle.
Marshfield Home Delivered Meals
Volunteer Drivers are needed to help with meal deliveries. Hot meals are picked up between 10:45 AM & 11 AM at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and delivered to the homes and apartments of elderly and disabled individuals in the Marshfield community. The total time involved is about one hour. Using their own vehicle, volunteers deliver the hot meals and pick up empty meal trays from the day before, which are then returned to the Hospital.
Marshfield Clinic Health Systems
Just a little of your time can make a huge difference in the lives of others. Volunteer opportunities are available for all levels of ability. Whether you want to work with children in pediatrics, behind a desk in the office, or behind the scenes, we have a place for you. Whatever your talent, you can do amazing things as a Marshfield Medical Center volunteer.
Marshfield Clinic – Independent and Upright
Volunteers help seniors stay independent in their homes by helping to reduce the risk of falls in the home.
Mainstreet Marshfield
When you volunteer to share your time and talents with Main Street Marshfield, you are helping build an active and vibrant community in Downtown Marshfield. They have ongoing volunteer positions for welcome coordinators, maintenance monitors, coordinators, fund developers, marketing distribution, and more.
Marshfield Area Respite Care Center
The Marshfield Area Respite Care Center (MARCC) offers a peaceful quality social daycare program for people with Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, or other dementia. Daily volunteers are needed for companionship, crafts, bingo, card games, puzzles, storytelling, and other activities
Marshfield Area Special Olympics
Volunteers are the backbone of the Special Olympics movement. They are coaches, trainers, officials, event organizers, fundraisers, and local program managers. They can also be Unified partners—playing alongside athletes with intellectual disabilities—or fans cheering in the stands. Regardless of their role, our volunteers help to bring out the champion in every Special Olympics athlete who makes the world a better place – one event at a time.
Marshfield Area YMCA
Volunteers are essential to the YMCA. By their very nature, volunteers help root the YMCA to its identity as an association for people motivated by an ethic of service. The YMCA has a variety of volunteer positions available and they can help find the perfect fit for the time you are willing to donate.
Marshfield Child Advocacy Center
The Marshfield Child Advocacy Center (MCAC) is seeking proactive individuals ready to make a difference in the community and the lives of others! Their highest need is for volunteers to provide childcare during their visit to the center. Other possibilities for volunteering include, but are not limited to, community outreach, administrative duties, special events coverage, and volunteer recruitment.
Memory Lane Farm
There’s always a lot to do at the farm! There are many opportunities to serve in a variety of ways for individuals and groups, on a one-time or ongoing basis. The farm operates entirely on volunteers and without you, we could not exist! Opportunities include animal care, farm assistance, session leaders, mentors, administrative, on-call, and more.
North Wood County Historical Society
The North Wood County Historical Society needs help cataloging photos and negatives in a visual resources collection. This would include scanning, identifying, and entering data into an excel spreadsheet. They are also looking for a marketing volunteer, and people who can help with yard and lawn maintenance.
Opportunity Development Centers, Inc.
ODC serves people with disabilities by providing skills training and employment services, and assistance in becoming more active in their communities. ODC is truly changing lives… but we can’t do it without you! There are so many ways that you can get involved, to empower people with disabilities to achieve!
Pathway Partners
The mission of the Pathway Partners Mentoring Program is “to expose high school students to nurturing relationships with caring adults and to the diversity of opportunities and experiences in our community.” They are looking for adults to partner with students for mentoring, job shadowing, informational interviewing, and more.
Orenda Center
The Orenda Center provides assistance to domestic abuse and assault victims to individuals and families in the North Wood County and Clark County area. They have a variety of volunteer positions available with provided training for those interested in community outreach and support, internal agency tasks, programming, and more.
ProMedica Hospice
Volunteers offer support, companionship, and practical compassionate help. Some interact directly with patients and families. Others prefer to work behind the scenes in the office setting. As a volunteer, you help determine which tasks you’re best suited to perform.
SCORE
Advise, guide, share, and inspire. SCORE is looking for people with diverse backgrounds and experiences to serve in a variety of roles — from knowledgeable business mentors to local community advocates.
Senior Medicare Patrol
Assist with outreach and education on Medicare fraud in your community. Volunteer involvement ranges from distributing materials, and staffing a booth at conferences and outreach events, to giving group presentations.
Shirley’s House of Hope
Their mission is to rebuild, renew and restore the lives of women and children hurting from domestic violence along with drug and alcohol addiction. They are looking for volunteers to help with staffing the shelter, maintenance, fundraising, running errands, and driving clients to appointments.
Soup or Socks
Soup or Socks is a food pantry and clothes closet looking for volunteers to sort food, organize clothing, pack items, and provide support at their events.
St. Croix Hospice
St. Croix Hospice offers many unique volunteer opportunities depending on your personal experience and preferences. Areas include a variety of tasks through virtual support, bereavement support, administration support, and more.
Wildwood Zoological Society
Wildwood Zoo offers several different opportunities to get involved like park cleaning and maintenance, special event assistance, landscaping, and more.
