International Mariachi Talent, New Menu Part of Weekend
[Update: International singer Clementina is no longer able to perform on Saturday.]
Festive music and a new menu are coming to Taqueria el Sol this Cinco de Mayo.
Due to a high turnout that saw a waiting line extend around the block last year, the authentic Mexican restaurant has expanded its celebrations to begin Friday, May 4 at noon and continue through Saturday, May 5. A portion of the event proceeds will benefit the Opportunity Development Center (ODC), which provides skill training and employment for those with disabilities.
While Cinco de Mayo is technically a celebration of Mexico’s defeat of French forces in 1862, today it is an opportunity to celebrate Mexican culture. Event-goers can expect live Mariachi music and Spanish radio, a beer tent, $1 beer and tequila specials all weekend and great Mexican food.
The festivities also bring in music that ordinarily wouldn’t have come Marshfield’s way. There will be live music and food starting at noon on Friday.
The Cinco de Mayo celebrations continue Saturday starting 10 a.m. Radio El Premerito en Espanol from Abbotsford will be having a live broadcast at the restaurant, which will have outdoor seating available. DJ Ortiz will return to close the night.
Taqueria el Sol debuts its new menu on Saturday, May 5. The menu will feature over twenty kinds of tacos in a soft shell tortilla, taco trays (up to forty), more vegetarian options, natural watermelon and peach margaritas made from fresh fruit, and savory desserts like churros and chimichanga cheesecake. The restaurant now offers catering for special events.
Owner Anastasia Cano is grateful for the support of her employees, particularly long-time cook Mario and restaurant manager, Luke. “He’s always very presentable and making sure things run smooth. He just wants to see people smiling,” she said.
Taqueria el Sol is located at 1705 S Central Ave.
