Chorale Performs Songs of Peace with Orchestra
EXPLORE – The Central Chamber Chorale will present various Songs of Peace with chamber orchestra. In the first half of the concert the Chorale presents several works including Rachmaninoff’s Ave Maria and The Ground by Ola Gjeilo, concluding with Johann Sebastian Bach’s Wachet Auf movement from Cantata No. 140.
After intermission, the Chorale and orchestra perform Ralph Vaughan William’s Dona Nobis Pacem with soloists Soprano, Lynette Mort and Bass, Tyler Nanstad. First performed in 1936, the work was written by Vaughan Williams at a time when Europe was still suffering from World War I and on the verge of World War II. The first movement is a cry for peace with the “Agnus Dei” and then moves into the beat of the war drums with text from Walt Whitman. The conclusion is a celebration of peace.
The performance is on Sunday, March 11th at 3 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 1208 W. 14th St., Marshfield. There are also performances on Friday, March 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church, 311 2nd St. South in Wisconsin Rapids and Saturday, March 10th at 7:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 215 S. Washington Ave. in Medford.
The concerts are open to the public without charge.
