With the mission of sharing the performance of choral music in a variety of styles and reaching out the Central Wisconsin community, the Central Chamber Chorale has been keeping the joy of great choral music alive since 1971 through their three free concerts held twice annually in Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, and other sites.
Choral members are residents of Central Wisconsin and members share a love of singing and performing. Members must be able to sing, blend, attend rehearsals, and read music, with rehearsals held regularly at Marshfield High School.
For their Spring 2016 concert, the Central Chamber Chorale performed at First Congregational Church in Wisconsin Rapids on March 11, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Medford on March 12, and Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield on March 13.
Directed by Greg Reierson and accompanied by Linda Feldt, the Chorale showcased favorite pieces from years past. Throughout the years, the Chorale has performed a cappella, been accompanied by piano, organ, and other instruments, and music has been performed in English, Latin, German, and even French.
Though Director Greg Reierson always welcomes suggestions for performances from chorale and board members, this concert was especially eclectic as members were asked to submit titles of their favorite pieces from concerts past.
"I found it sort of fascinating the wide variety of suggestions that we had," said Reierson. "If we had performed all of the suggestions, we would have had thirty pieces! We narrowed it down by 'hits', by which songs were submitted the most."
Nearly all of the pews at Christ Lutheran were filled with eager concert-goers, many of which arrived early to get the best seats.
The Central Chamber Chorale is supported through an annual fund drive in November, membership contributions, and audience donations at concerts. Rehearsal space at Marshfield High School and in-kind support of concert sites helps maintain free admission for anyone wishing to attend a concert.
