Explore – In December 1992, a Marshfield family gave a generous monetary gift to those who held the dream of what was to become The Hannah Center. The directive was to set up a house where a pregnant woman could come to find refuge, shelter, have a chance for respite, look at her life, and make plans for her future.
On January 19, 1993, twenty-four individuals met at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield. Diverse ages and occupations were represented. One by one, each was invited to share their observations specific to pregnant women alone in our society. A commonality of perceptions was immediately realized. Meetings continued and names for the house were discussed. We wanted a strong name, and finally chose Hannah after Hannah in 1 Samuel from the Bible. In reading her story, you realize that much of her experience of being a woman in her time is similar to being a woman today.
The Hannah Center opened her doors in June of 1993, serving woman facing crisis pregnancy. In 2011, The Hannah Center Board of Directors and staff realized that our community needs had changed, and we wanted to expand our mission to better assist our community. The Hannah Center’s mission now serves any women in crisis, pregnant, single or parenting.
The Hannah Center’s mission impacts the lives of women and children, breaking the cycles of poverty, abuse, homelessness and addiction for generations to come. We are committed to Preserving LIFE, Providing a HOME and Promoting CHANGE in each woman and child served. The Hannah Center is a non-profit organization which accepts no government or federal funding.
Please join us in celebration of creating positive change for 25 years! A special thank you goes out to all our community members who have supported us with their time, treasure and talents. We look forward to how God will move in our home and in the hearts of women served for another 25 years!
