Celebrate Global Fat-Bike Day at Levis Mound

Clark County’s Levis Mound harbors many opportunities to enjoy outdoor recreation during the winter months. Featuring epic mountain biking, hiking, and cross country skiing trails, this internationally known trail system is run and maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers. On December 3, the trail will celebrate Global Fat-Bike Day with special activities.

“It’s a single day event across the world-basically a friendly get together of fat-bikers to ride a trail system near them,” said Steve Meurett, race director, groomer and trail builder for Neillsville Area Trail Association (NATA). “It’s low key and fun.”

The group will assemble at 10:00am, hit the trails, complete their desired route, and meet at the GFBD grounds high on a mound on one of the trails. Campfire, refreshments and beverages will be provided.

“Hopefully this will raise some money for our chalet rebuild effort,” said Meurett, referring to a tragic fire that destroyed the structure in May 2016.

Meurett describes fat biking as “just plain fun”, adding that the big tires will roll over anything and can be enjoyed year round.

“At Levis, they are great because of our sandy soils and also in the winter, our 15 miles of groomed fat-bike trails,” he said.

For those unable to join in the fat-biking fun, there are other opportunities to support and enjoy Levis Mound trail including the Sweaty Yeti fat-bike race (2/25/17), The Buzzard Buster endurance race in April, and Gnomefest in September.
