Bull’s Eye Sports Celebrates 20 Years

Bull’s Eye Sports Shop

Scott and Jeni Schoenherr aimed big when they entered the world of small business ownership two decades ago, and their aim was true. The husband and wife couple co-own Bull’s Eye Sports Shop on the south side of Marshfield, and this August will celebrate 20 years being in business.

Offering a wide variety of fully stocked equipment, including bows, arrows, guns, ammunition, hunting apparel, and more, Bull’s Eye is an authorized dealer of products for sportsmen (and women!) young and old.

“It’s just in him that he was a sportsman,” said Jeni of her husband. “It was just a passion of his, and the plan was to do what he loved everyday.”

It was this passion that led the couple to start their own business, something that was a new adventure for both of them. They sold their newly built home in Stratford (and everything in it) to purchase their first business location on North Central Avenue and the home behind it. Scott left his job at H&S Manufacturing to oversee the store full time, while Jeni continued her work as a transcriber at Marshfield Clinic, while managing the books part time. What started small, with just one employee and Scott’s mother helping out part time, soon began to grow.

“After 10 years, we just could not fit. We were keeping extra stock in storage units that we rented,” said Jeni. “We couldn’t have any more growth if we stayed where we were.”

After moving into the former Goodwill building on the south side of town, the business could comfortably expand. Now, Bull’s Eye employs three full-time employees, and three part-time employees, and continues to serve its loyal customer base from that location.

bulleyegunsScott, who was honored as MACCI’s 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year, prides his business on its customer service. “We service what we sell, and even what we don’t,” he said, adding that in the age of the Internet, personalized customer service is something to be treasured.

Through their involvement in various industry organizations – Whitetails Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, as well as their support for local organizations such as sportsman clubs, the Rich Seubert Celebrity Trapshoot for cardiac research, and Marshfield Clinic Research Foundation, Bull’s Eye Sports is proud to support the community that has helped make them successful.

For someone who worked many years at a desk, Jeni now particularly enjoys being involved in the community, being hands-on, and getting to know the people in the community. Now working at the store full time while also working as a realtor at First Weber, her favorite part of the business has been the people.

Bullseyesale“We’ve had a lot of very loyal customers,” said Jeni, adding that it’s been fun to watch customers that started as children coming in with their parents now grow into adulthood, inviting her and Scott to their graduation parties and weddings.
“We’re very grateful for all the support of our loyal customers. Marshfield is a great community- we are very thankful,” she said.
To celebrate 20 years in business, Bull’s Eye Sports will be hosting its 20th annual archery sale, featuring specials and a chance to register for thousands of dollars in merchandise. There will also be a brat fry on Friday, August 5, with all proceeds benefiting the 4H Shooting Sports Program (see graphic for details!).
