1/31/18 – The 17th annual Bowlin’ for Colons will be coming for the first time in Marshfield in honor of a community member Cathy Wingert, who passed last November after a long but inspiring battle with colon cancer.

The event is hosted on March 4th by six bowling alleys in Wisconsin, including Rose Bowl Lanes in Marshfield. It will fundraise in memory of Cathy for the center in Madison where she received her treatment and was actively involved in promoting.
“All money raised at the Marshfield location will go directly to the Cathy Wingert Colorectal Cancer Research Fund, which supports Dr. Dusty Deming’s research lab at the UW Carbone Cancer Center,” said Brianah Laughnan, Cathy’s daughter.
The family’s hope is to raise awareness and advocate for colon cancer research. According to the American Cancer Society, colectoral cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths for both men and women in the United States, and the society expects nearly 100,000 new cases this year. But due to improvements in screening and treatment, deaths from the cancer have been dropping.
As participants of Bowlin’ for Colons the past two years, and because of the family’s fundraising efforts, Laughnan was able to bring the event to Marshfield for the first time. The March date is significant for them: not only is March Colon Cancer Awareness Month, but Cathy’s birthday is March 6th, making the fundraiser the perfect way to remember her.
“We want to honor my Mom’s legacy and continue what she started and devote our time, our support, and our money to a cause she believed so passionately in,” said Laughnan. “We would be so honored and blessed to continue this event on an annual basis at the Marshfield location.”
Those who can’t make the event can still make a donation to the event itself or buy a t-shirt. Raffle items are welcome. “We are looking for gift cards, gift certificates, items or services related to a local business which we can use towards our raffle tables,” said Laughnan. Bowlin’ for Colons has a combined goal of $80,000 for all the locations.
Participants can register as individuals or join a team for $25 a person, which includes shoe rental and three games of bowling. The first session is from 9:30-12:30 and the second from 1-4 p.m. Register online here.
