Booster Club Aims To Improve Athletic Facilities
The annual Booster Bash returns for its fifth year on April 21 to help fund Marshfield High School and Middle School athletics. It is hosted by the Marshfield Tiger Booster Club, a nonprofit volunteer organization that supports all athletic programs at the high school.
“With continued reduction in school funding, public school programs survive mostly by the grace of parents, fans, community and corporate donations,” said Ashley Fredrick, Booster Bash Chair. “The Booster Bash concept came from the ever-growing need for outside financial support to enable our schools to remain competitive in the challenging economy.”
Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at Scotty’s Pizza, Victory Apparel, Marshfield Middle School, Marshfield High School or any board member, or are $30 at the door. Raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the same locations for the chance to win various prizes (see below). Doors open at the Marshfield Area Ice Arena at 5 p.m. with an all-you-can-eat dinner from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
On the menu is pulled pork, chicken breasts, slaw and potato salad, cookies from JJ’s Bakery and cupcakes from 2 ½ cups. Games include the bean bag toss, human-size Jenga, basketball. All attendees must be 21 years or older.
Half of proceeds will be set aside for future facility improvements, and provide equipment, uniforms, and other needs that fall outside the limits of the school district budget. “We receive more than $40,000 in requests on an annual basis, and this Bash is our primary fundraiser to help fulfill these numerous requests on an ongoing basis,” Fredrick said.
Past fundraisers have helped provide for the needs of many different sports teams. “Proceeds raised from our last event have helped to provide: boys basketball shooting shirts, wrestling conference shirts, soccer and volleyball regional shirts, boys track shirts, girls soccer sweats, cheerleading uniforms, record board updates, scholarship, boys hockey bags/socks, boys/girls state track shirts, numerous clinics, WBCA All Star sponsorship and the MTBC All Sports Awards Night,” said Fredrick.
Facility improvements that are needed include the aging football field and lack of an outdoor track, which will be addressed through the Marshfield Area Athletic Facilities project. More information on the project can be found at this link.
The Booster Club will host other events in the future, including a golf outing at RiverEdge Golf Course on June 22. They raise funds through concessions at football games and distribute a sports program.
