Bodacious Bombers Create Coral Reef at Library

Marshfield Library Host to Latest “Yarn Bomb” Efforts

The Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library lobby now has a coral reef in its atrium, thanks to the efforts of several crafty local women. Calling themselves “The Bodacious Bombers,” the casual group of about ten friends has met regularly for the last five years to work on personal crafts, socialize, and collaborate on larger projects.

Inspired by the street art trend of “yarn bombing,” the group has exhibited their work throughout the City (such as creating a cape on the Veterans Parkway Dragon and a sweater for Tilly the Turtle at the Marshfield Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry).

Their latest efforts, on display through the month of July at the library, are in an effort to raise awareness for the declining coral reefs.

“What we want to do is raise awareness to why it’s important to save the coral reefs, because the coral reefs are being destroyed all over the world,” said Kathleen Rulka, group member.

Featuring an elaborate collection of knitted coral, octopi, and seaweed, accompanied by glass fish and other artistic decor, the display is truly a work of art.

“We want to bring delight to people, as always, with our wonderful yarn displays,” said Rulka.

Visit the display during Marshfield Public Library open hours (Summer: Monday-Friday, 9:00am-8:00pm, Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm). The display case in the library’s lobby is available for organization use through an application process. More information is available at the library.
