A trip to the dentist (Athens veterinarian Dr. Taylor) for Wildwood Zoo’s Arctic Fox, Blizzard, revealed the presence of a cavity in his upper left canine that might have been causing him discomfort.
On Thursday, June 14, Blizzard returned to the clinic for further dental radiographs to see if a removal was necessary. Ultimately it was decided that the tooth should be pulled.
Everything went well during the surgery and Blizzard returned to his home at the Wildwood Zoo that same day. For the next two weeks, the fox will be separated from Shadow, his exhibit partner, so he can recuperate. He is enjoying snacking on soft food and his time spent in the air-conditioned indoors.
Visitors can still see what the other animals are up to at Wildwood Zoo. Say hello to kodiak bears Munsey and Boda, the prairie dogs, cougars (who recently turned ten), owls, bison, wolves, and more. As always the zoo is free, but donations are appreciated.
