Explore Marshfield – Bicycle Discount
Not only is bicycling a great form of fun and exercise, now cyclists in Marshfield can enjoy special discounts and promotions just for riding their bike.
In its eighth year, the Bicycle Discount Program is a program of Marshfield Clinic’s Center for Community Outreach designed to promote healthy lifestyles.
More than 20 businesses participate in the program, offering incentives such as a discount on purchases or even a free item. Bikers can collect a discount card at any participating business, but must wear a helmet to collect any rewards.
“When people participate in this program, we hope they realize how easy it is to make short trips by bike instead of by car,” said Laura Zelenak, Health Educator with Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach. “This is important because when people incorporate physical activity into their daily routine, such as walking or biking to the places they visit instead of driving, they are more likely to keep up the physical activity.
She adds that most people are very busy, so trying to add something new into their life can be hard, but rewarding.
“If they replace a 5-minute car ride with a 10-minute bike ride to run an errand, that’s 10 minutes of physical activity AND they are still doing what they intended to do. It’s a win-win!” she said.
Participants who visit four or more businesses are eligible for prizes after the program’s conclusion on August 31. Continuing this year is an electronic check-in option, so bicyclists don’t’ need to always have their card (rather, can scan the QR code at the register to check in electronically).
With plenty of summer left, it’s not too late to join the fun!
“We have some really great prizes from our participating businesses including a Fitbit, car detailing, gift certificates, free food and more!” said Zelenak.
Discount cards can be picked up at the Marshfield Clinic Center for Community Outreach on Fig Avenue, as well as at any participating business, which include: 2 1/2 Cups Cupcakery & Bake Shop, Arby’s, Bakerville Sports Bar and Grill, Biggby Coffee, Blue Heron Brewpub, Baltus Bread & Butter Shop, China Chef, Chips of Marshfield, Culver’s, Dairy Queen, Draxler’s Service Center in Hewitt, Dunham’s Sports, Hub City Ice Cream Company, JJ’s Bakery, Everett Roehl Marshfield Public Library, McDonald’s, Melody Gardens, Perkin’s Restaurant and Bakery, Pick ‘n Save, Scotty’s Pizza, Sports Den, Taco John’s, Victory Apparel and Weber’s Farm Store.
