Arts and Crafts… tis Season

Arts and crafts isn’t just for glue & glitter covered first-graders anymore.

It has branched out into a full-blown past time for adults too and the trend has made its way into Marshfield.

Many local businesses and groups are hosting craft nights including sign making, painting, coloring, and more.

Jenni Yetter, a local who has attended over a dozen of such events says she finds it relaxing.

“I enjoy doing these kinds of classes with friends as we can get together, talk, relax, and come home with a finished project,” she said.

You can find many of these classes at local places like the library, Hotel Marshfield, As You Wish, Mill Creek Gardens and Schalow’s Nursery.

Hotel Marshfield just wrapped one of the their Buzzed Brushes Paint Nights this Wednesday which features painting and cocktails. They have another one coming up on Dec. 14. They have also been hosting adult coloring nights since January of 2016.

“We have had a great experience with these events! They have been a cool new way to meet a new crowd that might not have been to Hotel Marshfield before. We were pleasantly surprised at the first adult coloring book night’s turn out, with approximately 130 people in attendance,” said Jill Trudeau, Administrative & Promotions Assistant.

The popularity of sites such as Pinterest, where you can “pin” craft ideas from others, has helped spurred more creativity and interest in crafts in general. Also, it’s just plain fun to branch out.

“Crafty websites like Pinterest have become so popular with easy-to-follow DIY and creative projects. We thought this would be a great way to get folks out and get social. The art events we have created are a great way to get out with a group of friends, to relax, eat, drink and socialize, even if you are not the most artistic person, she said.
“I think these classes are popular as people like to be creative and try new things,” Yetter said.

It’s not just the participants that are enjoying themselves.

“We wanted to find activities that would allow people a chance to do something different. It’s such a relaxing and happy atmosphere that we enjoy being a part of the night to,” said Hotel Marshfield Corporate Sales Manager Tricia Berg.

We have included a list of a few of the local upcoming arts & crafts events. For more information, please visit the business website or Facebook page. Please note many of these classes might require reservations and might have associated costs.
