‘A Nite for Tyler’ Memorial Fundraiser Returns for 2nd Year

A scholarship fundraiser will return for a second year on Saturday, Sept. 28 in memory of Tyler Manthe, a 2014 graduate of Marshfield High School and member of the wrestling team.

Tyler, 21, was acting as his group’s designated driver on August 5, 2017 when a drunk driver crossed the centerline and collided with Tyler’s vehicle. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital and died from his injuries a few hours later.

Tyler’s parents, Cory and Gidget Tobin, have turned this tragedy into an opportunity to educate on the very real consequences of drinking and driving and honor his passion for wrestling with a scholarship.

“Tyler had a passion and love for the sport of wrestling. He wrestled for years and he was pretty darn good at it,” said Gidget. “He made a lot of friends along the way.”

“Though we miss Tyler everyday, we wanted to give back to something that meant so much to our son Tyler,” she said. “So in honor of him, we decided to start the Tyler Luke Manthe Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is awarded annually to a Marshfield High School wrestler going on to school.”

The event will take place at Bakerville Sports Bar on HWY B in Marshfield. Doors open at 4 p.m. with a $5 admission to watch the Frontline Wrestling show at 6 p.m.
