Proceeds Benefit Cancer Supporting Foundations and Treatment
The School District of Stratford and its FCCLA program host 5k for a Cure: Jog for Julie and Jenny on Saturday, April 21st from 9:00 am – 11:00 am.
The walk/run is in support of women who have fought cancer with proceeds going towards others undergoing treatment and cancer supporting foundations. The race starts at the Stratford football field entrance and leads into the Heritage Trail.
FCCLA advisor and Stratford High School health teacher, Whitney Frombach, said this is the 3rd year the organization has spearheaded the event for individuals in the area affected by cancer.
“Our club initially wanted to create an event to get community members involved to help raise awareness and take a stand to be leaders in organizing an event that can give back to others. The main goal of events like this is to walk/run in support of cancer patients and their amazing journey.”
Julie Licciardi was diagnosed with Large B Cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in October of 2017. Married and a mother of two, she has completed six rounds of chemotherapy in four months. Her positive spirit is an inspiration to all fighting cancer.
Jenny Chapel was treated successfully for colon cancer in 2004. In 2016, with her husband and three children by her side, she was diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome, an indicator that several types of cancer genes were present in her body. Shortly after, endometrial cancer was found and Jenny underwent five months of chemotherapy and two months of radiation. Her fighting spirit gives hope to all.
Said Frombach, “Julie and Jenny are both very well known members of the Stratford Community and have amazing stories that are a true inspiration to others, they are both so truly generous that they are donating the proceeds of the race in their honor to others that are in need.”
Participants will receive a T-shirt and goodie bag. Free concessions will also be available, including banana’s offered through Festival Foods. Burt Awards will donate a trophy to the top male and female runner. Raffle baskets from numerous members of the community will be on hand to bid on. The fun continues after the run as baseball and softball games will be played at the Stratford Athletic Fields that same afternoon.
