Winners Will be Announced at May 31 Event
Who will be the 2017 Central Wisconsin Fairest and Junior Fairest of the Fair? That very question will be answered on Wednesday, May 31st at the Eagles Club starting at 6:00 pm.
Applicants for both titles are currently being accepted. Those looking to apply can visit the official website for details, and applications are due by May 8th. The winners will represent and promote The Central Wisconsin State Fair at a variety of events in Wood County.
Mary Gilbertson, Fairest of the Fair Coordinator, said the young ladies have busy schedules as representatives.
“The Fairest of the Fair and Jr. Fairest of the Fair help promote the Central Wisconsin State Fair during their year-long reign through radio interviews and public appearances throughout Wood County,” she said. “The winners of these positions are also the official hosts of the Central Wisconsin State Fair. The Fairest of the Fair goes on to compete for the Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs title, held in January.”
In addition to the honor of wearing the crown, the Fairest of the Fair winner will receive a $1000 scholarship, while the runner up is awarded with a $200 scholarship, courtesy of Bents Chiropractic. The Junior Fairest of the Fair earns a $100 cash donation and runner up a $50 cash donation to their personal club or organization. These awards are given by Heiman Trucking.
Gilbertson said that judges will determine the winners the night of the coronation.
“The winner is selected based on scores given by a panel of three judges,” she explained. “The judges are volunteers from the community. The judges score contestants on written essays, personal interviews, and questions asked in front of a live audience at coronation.”
The coronation event is open to the public and RSVP’s are appreciated. Contestants put together baskets to auction off with proceeds going to the Fairest of the Fair program.
